LSC commences consultation on regulation of lawyer costs
The Legal Services Commissioner has invited legal practitioners to take part in the upcoming Symposium "On Costs" to be held on 19 May. In an invitation sent to the Ethics Centre, Commissioner John Briton explains:
The symposium, On Costs, will be held between 4-7pm on Thursday 19 May. It will identify some key principles that go to how lawyers can properly charge for their services, including the principles set out in the Australian Consumer Law 2011, and explore how those principles apply to a range of billing practices we see at the Commission and that cause us concern. The symposium will begin a process of consultation that will result in the publication of regulatory guides addressing these issues. The draft program is attached for your information. Note that your participation will enable you to claim CPD points.
The draft program can be downloaded here.
